EPISODE TWO
“Forgive & Forget”
“I don’t know how she found out.” says Emma, “I was just sitting on my couch and she came down stairs and told me. I don’t know what to do. Any advice, guys?” Emma stands in the hallways at the school with her typical group, Brooke, Stavo and Noah. Plus the add on of Andrew Wizworth and the absence of Audrey Jensen.
“Wait, so.. Catch me up with this, your dad knew you were victimized like he was at one point and he didn’t try to come back and help you through it?” Andrew questions
“Well, I mean he tried to come back after the first killings. My mom told him to get lost though. He didn’t try to come back when it was happening.” Emma replies.
“No offense, but that’s totally screwed up.” Andrew responds “I’m sorry you’ve had to go through all of this.” Andrew seems like a genuine guy. He’s wearing button up cargo shorts and a designer tee shirt that’s a little too small for him, possibly by design. His hair is blonde and his eyes are brown. He’s a lot skinnier than Stavo, more of Noah’s build, but athletic. He has a very natural tan to his skin.
“Now that I think about it… Where’s Audrey?” asks Noah, “It’s not like her to miss school.” Truly concerned about his friend, Noah continues. “I’m going to go checkout the office to see if she is on the absentee list. Anyone want to come with?” Stavo steps to the side and raises his eyebrows, saying he will go. The two walk off together.
“Did you tell Maggie that Kevin is back?” Stavo firmly asks Noah, seemingly upset. Noah gives him a confused look.
“I thought you did.. Who else would know?” Noah asks Stavo, “It was just me and you there last night. Did you tell Miguel?” Noah questions back.
“Haven’t said a word.” Stavo exclaims as the two are nearing the office. “You don’t think someone was watching us, do you?” They pause for a moment, look over and realize they’re looking in the office window.
The two enter but only Noah looks over as Stavo just leans up against the wall. “Hmm.” says Noah, “That’s weird..” Stavo gives him a confused look, asking him what, basically. “Attendance says she’s here but I haven’t seen her all day.” Noah looks over as Stavo shrugs his shoulders.

“I’m really worried about Audrey.” says Noah, to Emma “Why would she leave school? She never leaves school. Have you ever known her to leave school?” Noah paces around, clearly worried and anxious. He’s rambling which is a dead giveaway for him. It’s what he does when he’s nervous.
“Me and her got into a fight after I left yesterday.” says Emma, “I don’t know if that could affect her not being here still or not, but I felt like you should know this.” She talks to the same people as before, Brooke, Stavo, Noah and Andrew.
“I hope that’s all that’s wrong.” says Brooke “What are you going to do about your dad?” she follows up asking.
“I honestly don’t know, what do you guys think I should do?” she asks and when she does, Stavo gets a little grin on his face.
“Tell him he’s a piece of shit.” Stavo says under his breath and Brooke elbows him in the stomach, but trying to be sneaky about it. “What? It’s true.” he says a little louder.
“How do you know? You’ve never met him.” Brooke glares at Stavo after rolling her eyes.
“I’ve heard stories.” he replies, “Kinda glad I don’t know him.” Noah looks over at Stavo to see how he’s going to play it off. The clique stands around for a little bit until the bell rings and they all then head out the doors of the school. Emma is walking along when she hears the clicks of shoes speeding up, hitting the ground and getting closer behind her. She whips around and her hair flips in the wind. In front of her stands Andrew Wizworth.
“Hey ummm… I was just wondering--” Andrew stutters and hesitates before getting a stupid grin on his face “What are you doing after school?” he asks as she’s getting into her car. “I just wanted to know if you wanted to do something.. Like.. together?” He’s visibly nervous asking the question.
“Uh- actually, I was going to try to get some answers about my dad--- wait, are you asking me on a date?” Emma’s head clicks that’s what his question was and not just generally conversing.
“I was, yeah… If you’re busy, it’s fine, I guess.” he says, “I’ll just be on my way then… See ya’ tomorrow.” He hangs his head as he begins to walk away, as if he’s pouting like a child at her not getting the hint.
“No! It’s good.” Emma responds to his sadness. “I can--- uh--- I can track down my dad some other day. I’ll like.. Text you or something? When can you come over--” she stops talking for a second, “Or like.. What are we doing?”
“Not sure, to be honest. I was hoping we could just chill at your house or something like that. Is that okay with you?”
“Yeah! That works. Um, I’ll uh-- talk to you later.” She says smiling as she bites her lip and closes her car door.
“See ya.” He smiles back and waves as she drives off.
✟
Emma Duval sits in her house, on her couch wearing a different outfit than the one she had wore to school, but it’s still casual. Skinny jeans and a graphic tee. She has her phone out, ready to text Andrew, when a notification appears on her phone. It’s not a text from Andrew… Audrey.
Hey Em. 4:47pm
Emma looks at the text with a confused look, wondering several questions, why Audrey wasn’t at school and why of all people would Audrey text her? They had just been fighting yesterday. She wonders if this is just leading to an apology.
Where were you today? 4:47pm
Emma replies to Audrey, trying to still sound salty. She’s letting Audrey know she is still not yet over the argument the two had had the previous day, about Audrey basically calling her crazy.
Well that wasn’t a very welcoming response. 4:48pm
Emma rolls her eyes and begins to type back, before Emma can send the message, she receives another message from Audrey.
Let’s just say, my hands were tied. 4:49pm
Emma hesitates to begin typing after an unsual text. She looks around and walks over to her window. She looks to the right of her window, then the left. She determines that nothing is around her, but shuts the blinds anyways. She then walks back over to her couch and sits back down. Almost immediately after she sits down, her phone dings again. Another text from Audrey.
I can still see you. 4:52
Emma backs up to her feet and locks the door. Her breathing quickens along with her heartbeat. The house is quiet, excluding the sounds coming from her chest. As she anticipates what’s next, her breathing starts to calm.
Why do you assume I’m outside? 4:53
In a panic, Emma immediately sends a text back.
WHO IS THIS? 4:53
Emma anticipates the next text, but instead received a call. Audrey Jensen’s name pops up on her screen. She lets her phone buzz for a few seconds, then she answers. “Hello Emma.” says the voice that still haunts Emma’s dreams. The same exact voice that was used previously by her step-sister, Piper Shaw and her ex-boyfriend, Kieran Wilcox. Emma’s heart drops.
“Who is this?” Emma asks again. No reply. “Where is Audrey?!” Emma’s voice raises at the well-recognized voice.
“This is my game, not yours, Emma. I ask the questions. You’re my pawn.” the voice says back. “You shouldn’t have told Audrey, Emma. Now I have ahold of her and I can slice through her throat as easy as a warm knife going through butter. Piper and Kieran were soft. I’m not as soft. I won’t hesitate to kill Audrey and I won’t hesitate to kill you. So Emma, are you ready to play by MY rules now?”
There’s a brief moment of hesitation where no one speaks, seemingly forever. Emma breaks the silence. “Yes.” Emma responds to the perpetrator, nodding her head and assuming someone is looking at her somehow.
“Good.” The voice responds back. “My first rule is, no outside interferences. That includes police, your mother, your father, your friends. This time, the game is all you, Emma.” It clicks in her head that the voice mentioned her father, meaning whoever it is knows that her father is back.
“Understood.” she says, waiting for the next rule. She hears silence and she looks around to make sure no one is watching her as she speaks.
“That’s the only rule. Are you ready to hear the game?” the voice begins to speak, she’s unaware if the question was rhetorical or the person was watching. “Remember when your good buddy, Noah and his lovely girlfriend, Zoe was kidnapped by… Kieran?” the name triggers bad memories for Emma, she clenches her eyes shut, trying to avoid a breakdown. “Of course you remember, that was the day Zoe was killed.” Emma continues to clinch as the person knows her trigger words. “We’re going to play hide and seek Emma, just like Brandon used to play with your slut of a mother. Don’t worry, Audrey isn’t underwater.” The voice cynically laughs. “If you hesitate to find her, she will be dead. I know exactly where she is. If you don’t find her, I’ll kill her personally.” he finishes up. “The timer starts now. Your clock is ticking.”
✟
Emma runs as fast as she can with her phone in her hand. She tries to dial a contact called Audrey2, hoping she has her backup phone on her. The phone says CONNECTING. It’s a facetime answer. “AUDREY! Thank god.” Emma says back, the video finally connects from its black screen to Audrey with her eyes closed. “Audrey?!” she recognizes the location from somewhere, but she doesn’t know where. The camera flips to the mask that haunts her dreams holding a bloodied knife. The call ends.
Emma tries to remember where she know the location of Audrey from. This brings her back to a devastating past. She has it on the tip of her tongue when her phone goes off. Audrey Jensen.
Want a hint? 7:24
Emma contemplates her answer because she doesn’t want to show weakness. She also thinks it may be a trick question. Before she can respond, she realizes that the question was rhetorical when the person texts back without a response.
The rise of Kieran and the fall of both James’ blood. 7:24
After a short amount of considering, Emma instantly whispers to herself. Something clicks into her head and she runs at full speed with a purpose.
✟
Brooke Maddox sits in her room. The music on her speakers are at full blast. The vibration of her speaks is so present that it’s visible. Brooke is looking on at her flat screen TV, which is the source of her music. She searches for a new song to play as a sad song is playing and killing her rare good mood.
She searches through Pandora, but song after song is sad. With one last attempt, “Bad Blood” by Taylor Swift comes on, which she has to accept, now being out of skips, good, bad or indifferent. That’s when her phone gets a text from Stavo.
Do you want to hang out or something? 7:32
Brooke looks down at her phone and gets a little grin on her face. Brooke low-key likes when Stavo is awkward about asking her on a date. She finds it cute.
What do you want to do? 7:33
Brooke asks him, still smiling down at her phone, curious as to what he could possibly want to do for a date, knowing he hates going out in public. She waits still smiling down at her phone. The next text confuses her.
Let’s just go to the dock and forget everything 7:33
Her eyes crunch up, as she rereads the text, there is a misunderstanding. After reviewing it several times, she establishes that she read it correctly.
That sounds risky, no? 7:36
You like risky, no? 7:36
Her texts quickly fade into a different conversation, ‘I’m here.’ the last text reads. The phone is dropped and it reveals Emma’s hand in a familiar sight. She stands at the edge of the dock, waiting for Audrey, or quite possibly someone under the Brandon James mask.
She holds her phone waiting to receive another text. Instead a different noise is heard. Movement. Emma hears the footsteps that are too heavy to be a deer, yet too light to be a bear. She clicks on the flashlight on her phone as it is beginning to grow dark. The flashlight shines into the woods, searching where ever the movement is coming from.
Emma instantly thinks Brandon James. She goes into an instant panic. Her breathing picks up, but slows down when she begins to recognize the face-- Gina McClain. Audrey’s girlfriend.
“Emma?” Gina clearly recognizes Emma. The two have never really gotten along since they’d spent Halloween on Murder Island. Gina had grown frustrated and jealous of Emma’s friendship with Audrey. Emma often wonders if Gina still gets jealous even though she apologized, but at this moment, Emma wonders if the jealousy is enough to drive her to kill. “Any clue why Audrey told me to meet her here?”
Now Emma has a dilemma. There are two possible reasons for Gina to be their-- either A. she’s telling the truth and whoever was texting her was also texting Gina, or B. she was texting Emma and made it up to make Emma trust her. She doesn’t know which option to choose but she has to think fast.
“What did you do to Audrey?” Emma says accusing Gina as her eyebrows almost instantly crinkle together. Her face shows confusion, but Emma’s shows suspicion. It’s clear Emma doesn’t believe the confused look on Gina’s face.
“What- what are you talking about?” What’s wrong with Audrey?” Emma looks at Gina with disgust. Emma is set on believing Gina had taken Audrey in spite of their friendship.
“Don’t play stupid with me, Gina McClain. Tell me where you are hiding her. Game over, Gina, I finished your riddle. I win.” Gina grows even more confused, but this time, Emma too becomes confused.
“Audrey’s missing?” says Brooke’s voice. Emma darts her eyes, focusing on Brooke. Gina is still confused as to what Emma was talking about.
“What are you doing here, Brooke?” Emma asks, now suspecting Brooke. She hesitates before speaking again, but Brooke doesn’t reply “Brooke. Why are you here?”
“Stavo texted me.” She says, finally replying. “Where’s Audrey?” Brooke’s eyes wander around the woods, but Emma’s remain on Gina.
“Why don’t you ask Gina? She seems like she knows something.” Brooke’s big eyes wander over to Gina, who’s clearly growing frustrated.
“Gina?” says Brooke, in a calm, scared voice. “What’s going on?” a completely clueless Brooke asks.
“What? I’m as clueless as you, good God, Emma.” Gina’s voice is raised into a yell. “How am I to know YOU’RE not setting us up?” Gina points her finger at Emma.
“What, me?!” Emma yells “I’m a victim. I’ve always been a victim. Why would I be doing this to myself? Hunting, kidnapping, killing all of my friends? That makes no sense.” Emma’s face is beat red at the accusations.
“That’s where you’re wrong, Emma. Nina was a victim, Riley was a victim. Jake was a victim, Eli was a victim.” Gina pauses for a second. “Now Audrey-- my girlfriend-- might possibly be a victim. Audrey has caught me up since Halloween. She’s told me her life story and your life story is apart of her life story. In your life story, you’ve never once been victimized. Only the people around you.” Hot tears start rolling down the face of Emma. Concern is on the face of Gina, knowing she’s crossed the line.
“Stop!” Brooke yells, intervening. “Arguing isn’t getting us anywhere.” There is a moment of silence where Emma’s quiet weep is the only thing heard. “Can someone please catch me up?”
Emma’s teary eyes finally open. “Brandon James is back.” Emma goes in for a hug, still crying. Brooke stands still, scared emotionless. A moment with the hug stands still until Gina speaks.
“Wait.. Listen.” says Gina, “Do you hear that?” the noises of more footsteps in the woods. Emma once again shines her light into the woods. More movement is heard while all else stands still.
“Hello?” Brooke yells out. Emma instantly covers Brooke’s mouth. She glances down at her, telling her be quiet. Emma lets out a silent shush.
“Hello?” a voice is heard from the woods, following the voice, Noah Foster comes stumbling out of the woods.
“Noah?” Everyone is confused but Emma is the only one who addresses it. Noah’s face is pale-- scared.
“I’ve been listening.” Noah replies, “Pointing fingers is not going to help us Emma.” he says confidently. “I also received a text from ‘Audrey’ This is a typical scene from every horror movie.. Like, ever.” He continues “Whoever is doing this gathered us all here for a reason. The only thing that confuses me is, why did said person use Stavo’s phone to get Brooke and how did they get access to his phone.”
“You’re not scared?” Gina asks Noah. “Why are you so calm and confident in a situation like this?” Gina is clearly indicating that Noah is up to something or behind this.
“I’ve been through this before. I’m not scared. I’m angry.” He says nearly changing the subject. “Angry at the fact that I just started clearing my murder board.”
“Maybe we should split up?” Brooke suggests. “Find Audrey.” Noah puts his palm on his forehead, shaking his head no.
“No, no, no..” He laughs. “That’d be the worst thing to do, do you not watch horror movies? That’s exactly what whoever is doing this wants us to do. They are a hunter, I can nearly guarantee whoever it is, is in these woods right now, waiting for one of us to drift off from the pack so that they can pick us off one by one. If we want to find Audrey, we need to stick together.”
Emma nods, agreeing with Noah. Brooke smiles happy to follow Noah’s leadership. “I’ll lead because I know that I have the most knowledge in this genre. Before we go, let me lay down some typical horror ground rules. Rule number one, do not have sex. I mean, I don’t really think we have to worry about this rule that much because I’m the only guy and no offense, but I have no interest towards any of you.”
“Oh believe me, no offense was taken.” Brooke says and Emma lets out a giggle.
“You’re hilarious.” Noah says sarcastically, rolling his eyes. “Rule number two, every person for themselves. If I trip, I don’t want anyone to help me up, in that case, we’re both dead. Spare yourself.” He pauses waiting for another sarcastic interruption, but this time nobody does. “The third and most important rule, DO NOT WALK AWAY FROM THE PACK!” Noah yells. He turns around he turns around and gives the people following him a funny look. They all quit walking. “God dammit, where’s Gina.”
The group looks backwards at the sound of Noah’s voice. Gina is nowhere in sight. “Don’t split up.” Noah says, “Don’t leave the pack.” he murmurs some incomprehensible words to himself. “The simple rules.” He laughs to himself. “Is it that hard to listen to three simple rules?”
“She’s probably drifting off to plan who her next kill is.” Emma states, “I don’t think it’s a coincidence she’s here. She texted Noah using Audrey’s phone to text Noah because I had caught her and she needed a cover.”
“You think Gina is doing this?” Noah says with one of his eyebrows raised, showing confusion.
“I know she is.” Emma’s voice is focused. It’s untellable if she truly believes Gina is behind it or if it’s her paranoia.
“I mean, I guess anything’s possible, but I don’t see a clear motive as to why she’d do it--” Noah tries to brush the allegations off but Emma interrupts him before he can finish speaking what he was saying.
“Jealousy! She’s jealous! Look at everyone ‘called’ here! Me? Audrey’s childhood best friend. Noah, Audrey’s guy best friend slash sidekick and Brook, who Audrey has been growing a lot closer with since everything has happened.” Emma’s face is reddened again. “Go ahead and think I’m crazy Noah, but you’re going to feel like an idiot when she kills all of us and her face isn’t on your board when you die.”
Obviously taken with surprise, Noah is speechless. It’s hard to tell whether he’s angry or just thinking about what Emma had just said, after getting called out. There is a brief moment of silence with awkwardness. It’s ended by Emma’s phone dinging. She looks down at it. A text from Audrey’s phone.
You lose. 9:25pm
“It says you lose?” Emma says as a question with a confused look on her face. “I lose? What do I lose?” Noah and Brooke both look at Emma for a few seconds then a scream is heard.
“Oh my God, was that Gina?” Noah says, instead of whispering he’s now in his normal voice. Brooke nods, scared. “Let’s go.” The group go on a full sprint towards the direction that the scream came from.
They try to stick together but someone begins to lag behind. The footsteps of Brooke get slower and slower. Quieter and quieter. Eventually fading to no noise at all. Obeying Noah, Emma doesn’t turn around she thinks of the worst but keeps running.
Noah and Emma continue going at the same speed, leaving Brooke in the dust. Brooke continues trying to run, but eventually physically can’t anymore. She leans on the side of a tree, trying to rejuvenate her breath. She reaches into her right coat pocket, the only pocket on her coat and pulls out an inhaler. She puts her back to a tree as she uses the inhaler to regain her breath. It’s not working. The inhaler is, her lungs aren’t. She still can’t gather her breath.
Everything grows fuzzy. Brooke begins to feel warm, although she was just freezing in the Lakewood winter air. She begins to lose consciousness, she begins to lose everything.
✟
A loud scream is heard when Brooke’s eyes crack open. She looks around surveying the area. After a few conscious seconds, she realizes not only one scream was heard. It was two people screaming. One boy and one girl. Noah and Emma.
Brooke wants to get up and help them, but she finds herself incapable of moving. She’s not paralyzed, she’s not held down, her body just refuses to cooperate with her mind. She tries to move, tries to stand up. Eventually she finds the power to roll over. She is stopped by a tree. She plants the palms of her hands on a tree branch and pulls herself up to her feet. She looks down at the ground and notices footprints. She slowly begins to follow them with her phone’s flashlight shining down on them, due to it now being completely dark outside.
The ground is mushy from the rain they’ve been getting. Brooke’s cold feeling begins to return to her as the hair on her arms begin to stand and goosebumps cover her body. Her speed, walking the footsteps begins to speed up as she hears rustling in the woods behind her, almost returning to a full sprint. She then comes to a dead stop to see a red flashing light in the distance. She crinkles her eyebrows with a look of confusion.
Brooke begins to follow the flashing light. Her speed again picks up hearing loud rustles seeming to follow her. The red light appears to get closer to her, but it’s actually her getting closer to it. She breaks out of the woods and goes into an open field. From the distance, Brooke recognizes an ambulance. The top of the ambulance flashes red which is the light she had followed there. She sprints up a small hill, in which the ambulance sits on. Familiar faces. She sees Noah comforting Emma in a hug. She sees Gina who’s being put in the back of one of the ambulances, a towel pressed tightly against her left arm. She still doesn’t see Audrey.
She taps Emma on the shoulder. Emma turns around with her makeup running down her face. It’s also all over “Noah’s shoulder. Brooke! You’re alive!” Emma hugs Brooke in joy.
“Yeah. Did you guys find Audrey?” Brooke asks. Emma’s half smile turns to a blank face.
“We definitely found her.” Emma says “Hanging from a tree with a slice in her stomach.” Emma’s tears begin to cloud her eyes once more.
“OH MY GOD. Is she alive?” Brooke is too surprised to cry. Maybe even cried out from past events. It’s a great thing to be able to accept something like this, but at the same time, no one should have to have been through this enough for it to be a usual thing.
Emma nods. “Barely. She’s pretty banged up.” Tears run down Emma’s face. “Doctors don’t know if she’ll make it.” Emma’s hug on Brooke tightens up. “This can’t be happening again, Brooke. I thought it was over.”
Emma takes a step to the side and wanders off into the silent woods. Once she’s in range of no one hearing her, she receives a call. Audrey Jensen. Her heart drops, not only in fear, in anger. She picks up the phone.
“You said you wouldn’t hurt her.” Emma says silently and angrily into her iPhone.
“Yes, and you said you understood the rules.” the haunting voice says. “I just carried out my side of the deal.” Emma gets red in the face. “What’s wrong Emma? Did you just realize that you caused this?”
“You called them there on purpose.” She looks around. “You knew I would accuse Gina when you called her and you wanted everyone else to just happen to overhear it. You wanted a reason to kill Audrey, you used my disorder against me to do it.”
“Look at little Emma putting all the pieces together. Good job Emma!” the voice laughs, “I told you, I always win.”
“In the end, I do. Just ask Kieran and Piper.” Emma hangs up the phone and almost immediately after, her dad walks through the woods to meet her. “Dad?”
“Emma.” Emma hugs her dad as he says her name. “I heard about what happened. Are you okay?” He shows his sympathy.
“Physically, yes.” Emma says with a small half smile. “Why are you here?” Emma skips through the nice faze quickly.
“I heard about-” he goes to repeat himself, but Emma cuts him off before he can finish his sentence.
“Cut this shit, dad. I know you were in Troy James’ barn.” Emma’s face is now angry. “Why are you still lying to me? Why do you and mom insist on lying to me about everything? Maybe if you two would have been honest from the beginning, this whole thing could have been prevented.”
“Okay…” Kevin hangs his head low. “I haven’t been able to pick myself up since the assault arrest. I couldn’t even pay for my little one-room apartment. I’ve been drinking again. I’ve been living at the James farm. Your mother and I have always been trying to protect you, Emma. Since the beginning.” says Kevin.
Emma hugs her dad, feeling sympathy. “Promise you won’t leave this time?” She asks him. Her eyes are big as she looks up to him. He nods.
“I promise.”
